Agawa Canyon Fall Foliage
The beauty of Northern Ontario painted in colour
DAY 1: Toronto to Sudbury
From local joining points we travel into
Northern Ontario to view fabulous fall
colours. At Parry Sound we cruise around
the 30,000 Islands, before travelling to
Sudbury for our overnight accommodation.
DAY 2: Sault Ste. Marie, ON
Sudbury is famous for their location in the
Canadian Shield and the mining activities
in the area. After breakfast we tour the Big
Nickel Mine for a closer look the business of
mining. Later a nice afternoon drive brings
us to Sault Ste. Marie. (B)
DAY 3: Agawa Canyon/St. Ignace,
Michigan
We take the Algoma Central Train which
leaves at 8:00 a.m. for the “Agawa Canyon
Excursion”. Soon we will be up in the hills
which surround the city, looking down on
the Algoma Steel Mills, the International
Bridge and upper St. Mary’s River. When
we reach the mighty Montreal River we
cross via a trestle which will give you a thrill
to long remember. Then the train starts
its descent of over 500 feet in 12 miles to
reach the floor of the famous canyon. We
cross the winding Agawa River and soon
see the picturesque Bridal Veil Falls before
stopping at Canyon Park. Here we have two
hours to explore the Canyon floor, or relax at
a picnic table. We then reboard the train for
our trip back to Sault Ste. Marie. We board
our motor coach and cross the International
Bridge to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where
we join I-75 and travel south to St. Ignace
for a 2 night stay. (B, L)
DAY 4: St. Ignace, Michigan
This morning our motor coach will transfer
our group to the pier to board the Mackinac
ferry to Mackinac Island. The Island knows
no motorized vehicles, just bicycles and
horse drawn carriages. We begin our visit
with a horse drawn carriage ride, with a
driver/guide that provides some insight
into life on the island. This followed by a
fabulous lunch at the famous Grand Hotel!
Later you will have time to browse in the
quaint shops or stroll the quiet tree lined
streets. Tonight we return to the terrific
resort at St. Ignace. (B,L)
