A unique and once in a lifetime experience!
DAY 1: Toronto to Montreal
Complimentary shuttles to Pearson Airport
are included, before a casual afternoon
flight to Montreal. Here we shuttle to the
Airport area hotel, so that we are ready for
our full day tommorrow.
DAY 2: Kuujjuaq, Nunavik
Enjoy breakfast in your hotel this morning
before departing for the airport. Today
we fly “First Air” to Kuujjuaq, a name
that means “Great River” in Inuktitut, the
language of the Inuit. After a brief tour of
the town and buffet lunch, we transfer to
the “Lyubov Orlova”, our ship. This new
renovated cruise ship awaits our arrival as
we prepare for the high tide that will carry
us down the river to the vast expanse of
Arctic tundra and open sea. The routing for
this cruise will vary in order, to meet the
needs of our customers and wind current.
Among the places we may visit are:
Akpatok Island
Starting each morning, for the next 6
days, with breakfast on our vessel, we
will then be prepared to meet each day’s
new adventures. We spend these days
exploring the Arctic land and seascape.
Today we start with Akpatok Island, a
favorite summering ground for polar bears
and penguin-like thick billed murres, the
island has been designated by the Canadian
Wildlife Service as a special protection site.
We cruise the base of 800ft sheer cliffs and
marvel at the abundance of wildlife. We
recommend that you bring rubber boots,
good hiking boots and water resistant
pants. (B,L,D)
Killiniq and the Button Islands
At the northern tip of Labrador we find a
rugged, isolated world and a mecca for
marine mammals. We take the zodiacs to
explore the coastline, or hike across the
stunning tundra landscape. Dressing in
layers and carrying a backpack equipped
with extra clothing, bottled water, and
bug repellent is a suggestion that we
recommend to all passengers. (B,L,D)
Monumental Island
A favorite haul-out for walrus, and polar
bears are known to frequent the small rocky
island with outlying islets, a great location
to patrol for their next meal.
Kekerten Territorial Historic Park &
Auyuittuq National Park
Auyuittuk Nation Park is an amazing
wilderness of mountain peaks, treeless
valleys and glacial rivers, crowned by
the Penn Ice Cap, a remnant of the last
Ice Age. We may spend a short Arctic
night anchored by the rocky walls of the
Pangnirtung Fiord, a traditional home of the
Inuit for more than 1,000 years where there
is still a thriving community of artists. To
night we lingering under the midnight sun
and enjoying a BBQ party on deck. (B,L,D)
Pangnirtung
The village of Pangnirturng – known
as Pang to the locals – is the gateway
to Auyuittuq National Park. This is the
traditional home of the Inuite for more that
1,000 years where there is still a thriving
community of artists renowned world wide
for their weaving and printmaking.
DAY 9: Iqaluit
Catching the excitement as we sail up the
storied Frobisher Bay to dock just outside
Iqaluit! Today we prepare for our journey
home, enriched by the many wonderful
memories of our northern adventure. Our
First Air flight leaves in the late afternoon
and arrives back in Montreal in the early
evening.
